Some Changes Going On

Last night I made some changes to our Christmas tree - I didn't like the colored lights anymore so I took all the ornaments down and put up white lights NOW I'm much happier. I also added some more silver and snowflake ornaments to the tree to help balance out all the red. Okay now (for the most part) I can relax and enjoy it. There may be one more change I need to make we'll see. How is your Christmas decorating going at home?

And just for a cutie pie picture update, look at this little guy. Could he be any cuter? In his little sweater all snuggled up in a pile of blankets. Looking very distinguished.

Christmas in Savannah

Here are some recent pictures from the downtown Historic District of Savannah, GA all dressed up for the holidays. In a previous post I told you that we've moved and that now the Savannah area of a Georgia is our new stomping grounds and I hope it will remain that way for a long time. We love it here, it's a smaller town feel but has everything we need. One of the things I really like about Savannah is the fact that there's always something going on to keep one entertained.
This particular weekend we went down to the Historic District they were having a festival called Holly Days. In one square they were carving ice sculptures, in another (somehow) snow had fallen and piled up for kids to be able to run around in and make snowballs. :) And then on Broughton Street they had closed down part of the street and had an ice skating rink for people to skate on. It's just so fun and so nice to be a part of all of these activities.

I hope you're enjoying the holidays in your neck of the woods. We also managed to make a stop at Leopold's Ice Cream Shop for the first time when we went down for the Holly Days. It's a traditional old ice cream shop and it's delicious. All the ice cream is homemade. I had butter pecan and Fer had cinnamon. YUMMMY.
Have a great weekend.

The Tree is Up

We put up our tree this past weekend. There are still a few details to be added but for the most part it's up and it looks great. It's a simple little tree but works for us; it's all about peace love and memories. :) Little by little the house is getting into Christmas mode and I love it. This year we are going to have a FULL house for Christmas and I am getting so excited but that means we have a lot of work to do between now and when our guesst start arriving. Hope you're enjoying the Christmas season in your home.

The Christmas Season has Begun

A quick and crafty post of something I created over the weekend. For some reason I am all about pom poms this holiday season so I started by making a little red and white pom pom christmas tree, it was super easy all you need is a styrofoam tree form, pom poms and a hot glue gun. I decided an ornament on top of the tree was better than the original single pom pom I had on it so other than that it's all pom poms. :)

I wanted it to be mostly white with just touches of red as you can see from the pictures. Easy peasy I hope you have time to whip one up and I hope that this inspires you to get crafty this now this holiday season.

Is it all about the Centerpiece?

So what is the perfect formula for a great dinner, a great dinner party or a great holiday meal? Is it all about the centerpiece or does it have something to do with your guests, or hmmm even perhaps the meal?

Well here's my formula for a great dinner; first of all it take a lot of practice I would just say it's recently that I've been figuring out how to get it all done and not stress out about it, which is my second point don't stress out (easier said than done, of course) but if YOU do not enjoy the meal and the whole process then there's not point in doing it because you and your guests should enjoy the whole event.

Simply broken done here is my formula: Great Guests + (Great Centerpiece+Beautiful Table Setting) + Great Meal = Awesome Dinner/Holiday Meal.

I would also highly recommend planning out everything at LEAST three days before so you can get the necessary supplies and ingredients before the big day.

I will use our recent Thanksgiving Meal as my example of a Great Holiday Meal, I began with great guests. :) My parents - they traditionally come and visit for Thanksgiving and this year in particular is a really special time for us and I will go into more detail on WHY that is soon.

Then I came up with the centerpiece... I had been wondering what to do for awhile and I looked around what I already had and had been wanting to try for awhile and since we still had our small halloween pumpkin I decided to spruce it up and glitter it and it made a GREAT centerpiece. To glitter it took about 5 minutes and it will last for quite awhile. Then I let it dry over night and kept thinking of what else I do to it to make it awesome. I was orginally just going to put it on a cake plate but then I remembered I had this pottery barn woven charger (which I bought for only $4 a while ago) so I grabbed that and grabbed a bag of mixed nuts that we bought for the holiday and just dropped them around the pumpkin. :) I love it!!!

Then I worked on the table setting. On a trip to Target recently I picked up a new tablecloth a few inexpensive place mats and new napkins. Then for a simple ornament on top of the plate I just bought some pears, which I actually love because I believe that the pears really tied in all the colors and obviously they are inexpensive.

I also used some mason jars (that I had bought a while ago at the grocery store for canning, but I don't can) and put some kosher salt in the bottom and then a candle on top of that for added awesomeness. I think this is a simple table setting but very elegant at the same time which I love.

Next onto the meal. I will post my menu for Thanksgiving in my next post. I hope you all had a great holiday meal this year and that these simple ideas will help you with your next dinner party or holiday get together.

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you all have a wonderful thanksgiving holiday with your friends and family. I am putting the finishing touches on our thanksgiving dinner and decorations.

For our centerpiece I have glittered a pumpkin... so Martha Stewart. Stay tuned for more details on all the festivities.

Project Wednesday: Work in Progress

I'm starting to work on some Valentine's Day Projects, here's one. I am so happy that I am FINALLY using some of the many art supplies I have bought over the years. Here's I'm using one of the Martha Stewart shadow boxes that I bought a long time ago and a Martha Stewart heart punch I got not to long ago. I thought it would be cool to use scrabble letters to spell out some stuff in the picture. I got the scrabble letters (clip art) from Designer Digitals. what do you think so far? I think it would be even cooler to use actual scrabble tiles but we'll see about that.

December Daily: December 8th and 9th

December 8th I did all my shopping for everything I want to bake this holiday season. We are having a Christmas party this weekend and I've asked everyone to bring something traditional to their country or their families celebrations for the holidays. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has to share. I'll be sharing one of my favorite cookies, my Mom's fudge and something that I recently started making, Peppermint Bark. YUM! I can hardly wait!

Picture of the Christmas tree in the calmness of the evening, before a good friend of mine came over for dinner. Pizza... nonetheless. :)
Did some shopping ... finally found a dress for the work Christmas party and of course some other goodies.
Here's the peppermint bark in the fridge - chillin'. :) It's SUPER simple! Recipe courtesy of Paula Deen!

December Daily: December 7th

One the 7th day of Christmas my true love gave to me.... oh he already had given me this little adorable puppy and now I get to experience the best time of the year with him. On the 7th of December Zico got dressed up and posed in front of the Christmas tree for some great photos. He's such a good boy. Of course he never ceases to surprise me with the things he does.... once I turned my back he had grabbed the tree skirt and start playing with it, I couldn't resist but to take a photo and then of course rip it out of his hands, I mean paws.

Here are two of the best photos (it was so hard to pick) that I took on Monday evening of Zico in his Christmas sweater posing (for a treat) next to the tree. Don't you just want to squeeze his cheeks!

I hope you're enjoying all the moments of the Christmas season!

December Daily: Day 6

Day 6: Zico and I worked on possible photo options for our christmas cards this year, today we were practicing the poses and then the next time Zico got all spiffied up for the photo shoot. What a CUTIE he is! This was a busy weekend for us because Fer was preparing for a trip and a big event in Savannah for work. So these pictures were taken on Sunday evening when it was finally time to relax, at least for Zico and I.

I also took pictures of some of the decorations we have around the apartment for Xmas. Here's a photo of the felt garland I made, I love it. I have it wrapped around some candles above the entertainment center.

this is one of the FIRST christmas ornaments Fer and I ever bought it's Santa kneeling down to Baby Jesus, it's one of my favorites I just love the look of it and the calmess, I guess you could say. It's so peaceful.

December Daily: Catching Up

Here I'm playing catch up with posting some pictures from my December Daily project. I am really enjoying this project this year because I am not putting any pressure on myself I am documenting the moments as they happen no matter what happens. Here's what's been happening the past few days.

Day 1: The tree is up, it's a small artifical tree but I love it, to me it's perfect and it's such a joy to see in the apartment. Still a few more touches to add to it and I'll photograph them as they happen. (like putting a topper on the tree)

Day 2: Fer and I went Atlantic Station here in Atlanta and had lunch by the big christmas tree in the center of the "square". Took this photo of us from the reflection on the ornament. I love it!

Day 3: I was inspired to make this garland last year from reading one of Ali's Weekend Creative posts, but never got to it. I even cut all the felt but never had time to sew it together, this year I finally made it a priority and I think it came out great.
Day 4: was a Friday and did not do much that was Christmassy. I am in the process of receiving a promotion at work and this past Friday I was working like crazy to complete some projects for my old position and start some projects for the new position I'll be getting so the most I could accomplish that had to do with Christmas was to stop in at the Pottery Barn during lunch and pick up this ornament for our Christmas tree.
Day 5: Fer and I took our "son" "our first born" to sit on Santa's lap! Isn't this an awesome picture. We are having so much fun with Zico and are truely enjoying the experience of being new parents and everything that can go along with "kids" during the holidays. Everyone at the pet shop said that Zico took the cutest picture they had seen all day! What a cutie.
So that's it so far... I am really enjoying this Christmas season and I think that I'm enjoying it so much because I'm taking it how it comes --- no pressure this year. Of course I say that now... we're planning a holiday party on Saturday and I'm sure at some point this week I'll start stressing... but I'll try not to. :) Hope your season and your project is going well.

'Tis the Season.... Computer Difficulties

Well last night I sat down at the computer and hoped to work on photos and update my blog on the events so far of the Christmas Season, but you know things don't usually work out the way we hope they will, which is fine I'm also documenting those kind of moments during this holiday season as well.

I was only able to "sort of" edit one photo and then it wouldn't upload, what can you do. I will try again tonight or during the weekend to catch up with my December Daily 2009 Project. Have a great FRIDAY!
