Project Wednesday: Picture Wall Reveal

Finally my picture wall project is complete and I have photographed it to post here. I was totally inspired by this post by Ali proabably a year ago, so when Fer said he wanted more pictures of our families around the house I jumped on the opportunity to create this "headboard" of photos above our bed. Of course you can expect more of these type of photo walls to pop up around the aparment for sure.

I bought all the frames from Ikea (disregard the fire alarm above the photos) and printed them out on my home printer using Picasa - I printed them all in Sepia tone to go along with the tones of our room.

I love ALL of these photos and they make us smile everytime we look at them!

Art, Love, Family, Happiness.... I can go on and on.

Project Wednesday: Photo Wall (almost done)

Didn't have a chance to take a picture of the final product yet, but it's awesome. Just haven't had a chance to get the proper lighting in the room yet...

Project Wednesday: Hanging Shelves

We purchased some hanging shelves from Ikea a few... dare I say months ago where once they got home just sat, to the point of me thinking ... "I think I'm just going to return these shelves we're never going to hang them and it may not work out how I wanted it to to begin with..." type thing. UNTIL this past Sunday when I looked a wall in our guest room in a different light (LOL) and thought hey I think the shelves will work on this wall instead... so I broke out the hammer, the drill and unwrapped the shelves. As usual things are not always as easy as they seem and of course that always holds true when doing something around the house... but I did it! What an accomplishment. The process wasn't that hard once I finally got my head around the plan at hand and the end result is awesome (in my book). What do you think?

Here's how it went... my starting point was figuring when the printer/copier/scanner is open how much clearance do I have to hang the first shelf, so that's where I made the measurement for the first shelf; very scientific and visionary. :)

Then between the first one from the bottom and the middle one I measured a foot distance and between the middle and top one I measured 6 inches so I could put some tall on both the bottom and top shelves.

I am very proud of myself if I do say so! :)
So for all those projects you have laying around the house that you think will never get done.... there is hope!

I was a feature

Yesterday my DIY Cork Board project was featured on John and Sherry's Blog Young House Love. How awesome was that!! I am so excited. I have been reading their blog for a while now and look foward to seeing what they post every day!

I posted my story about the cork boards I created a few weeks ago and then sent in the pictures of the project to Sherry and John so they could if they wanted feature it in one of their Reader Redesign posts and they DID! I am so happy and honored to be a feature on their blog and look forward to some new found readers this "exposure" might bring me. :)

I did have a question from someone about the size of the frames since the corks fit in so perfectly. The actual frame size is 10 1/2 inches by 10 1/2 inches and the inside area where the corks were glued is 9 inches by 9 inches. I did have to play around with a lot of corks to get them to fit perfectly but it was a lot of fun.

So now the question is what should I make, as you can see I have a lot more corks to work with.

Project Wednesday: Organize the Linen Closets

Well I marked one thing off my project to do list, this past weekend. Organizing the linen closet/cabinets. They are much more orderly now, even labeled so no one will forget where things belong. I think once things have been well organized it's easy to keep them organized... just getting them to that point is hard.

Here's the other bathroom's closet, I think after reviewing these pictures I realize that I need more towels. LOL

Hope you were able to tackle a project this past weekend that we have been meaning to get to for awhile.

Project Wednesday: Work in Progress

I'm starting to work on some Valentine's Day Projects, here's one. I am so happy that I am FINALLY using some of the many art supplies I have bought over the years. Here's I'm using one of the Martha Stewart shadow boxes that I bought a long time ago and a Martha Stewart heart punch I got not to long ago. I thought it would be cool to use scrabble letters to spell out some stuff in the picture. I got the scrabble letters (clip art) from Designer Digitals. what do you think so far? I think it would be even cooler to use actual scrabble tiles but we'll see about that.

Project Wednesday: Calendar 2010

What a great New Year Project.
I am always making calendars, lately I've been making the kind of calendar that can fit in a CD case but recently I saw in the Martha Stewart Living Magazine this "Good Thing" a calendar using clip art that she provides on her website and hanging it from a 5x7 picture frame. Genuis! I love these frames from Ikea, they are so cheap and for me they are a nice thing to have on hand.

So here's a quick step by step - start with the frame.

measure and mark were you want to hang the hooks from to hand the calendar on the frame.

I made small holes in the frame with a nail and hammer so it would be easier to screw in the hook.

use cup holder hook

then screw in the hook.

print out the calendar clip art and cut it to size.

here's all the months printed out and now you can punch holes in them and hang them from the frame.

and the final product, the nice thing is that you can change out the picture whenever you like, but you don't have to fool again with the calendar it's self. Of course for me the part that took the longest was getting just the right picture of Mr. Zico. Once that was accomplished the project was done, probably took me an hour in total. Project Wednesday: "Cork" Boards

I have had so many projects that I have wanted to get done for a long time, but just did not have the time to complete them, let alone even GET to them. So this recent staycation that Fer and I have been on has afforded me a good amount of time to get to a lot of things and here is one of them.

I have been collecting wine corks for a long time and for the most part just store them in two large glass cookie jars, but have been wanting to make something with them for awhile (which is why I collect so many.) I made a coaster a few months back and I do plan to make more of those but this time I used a good amount of the corks up on these "cork" boards for our kitchen.

I have had these pictures for quite a while and they have served their purpose but now I found a new purpose for them. They are a good size and as you'll see below the detail on the edge of the frame lends itself to a classy bulletin board, right. :)

So armed with some black acrylic paint and tons of corks I went to work. I thought it would be a good idea to paint over the whole picture in black in case any of it showed thru the corks it would be more uniform that way.

Here they are all covered.

Then I started to arrange the corks, not as quick and easy as you would think if you want it to look good. I arranged them all make sure they fit well and looked good and then I started gluing.

Here they are all arranged and ready to be glued.

gotta love the glue gun. :)

I would take a few out at a time so I wouldn't lose the arrangement I wanted them to be in and glue each one individually.

all done. Don't they look GREAT. I would say start to finish the project probably took 2 1/2 hours most of the time spent gluing each cork down of course.

looks good.

I hung them on the wall with Velcro. I am very impressed with the outcome.

and now to put it to use.
